Well this is something that I have tried to set up before and lets just say I know nothing about setting up a blog. I think I have killed my mouse and the small white writing on the delete and backspace button have worn off and you know how when you were a kid you thought there was a little man in the fridge that turned the light on and off? Well if he was in my laptop right now he would be pulling his hair out and screaming at me "what are you doing"!! I think I can find the Save, Preview & Publish buttons with my eyes closed. In all seriousness I do hope that you find this blog relatable and it also brings a smile to your face as I ponder this adventure of online communication, learning and an introduction to accounting. Right now I am sitting here wondering what to right about so I thought I would make this first blog about my journey to CQU.
I have always had an interest in finances and working for my families business as the administration manager I had experience with "doing the books". I was lucky enough for our accountant at the time to take me under her wing and introduce me to manual ledgers, balance sheets and reconciliations before moving onto MYOB. I really enjoyed this and wanted to learn more. A move to the Gulf of Carpentaria had me pulling up stumps on business and accounting for awhile as I found my way in the gulf and was introduced to new working experiences. Moving forward a few years and a change in careers the spark to learn more about finance was ignited and I was seeking answers about Profit and Loss, Consolidated statements, GOP and EBITDA and what all numbers on the pages actually meant.
I started searching this information online using good old google, I know not a great learning platform but hey, haven't we all searched google! It was bringing up a lot of different information and was making it more confusing or was simply showing examples of financial papers from companies and I wanted to know what the information on these papers meant to someone and could I understand it? Was the company successful or were they in financial trouble? I wanted to have that skill where I could read these reports and have a good understanding of what these reports were actually telling me. Given that google was not going to provide me with the answers I made the brave decision that after 20+ years I was going to jump in with both feet and return to study! I searched universities online and thought that CQU offered the most information on courses and when I contacted the university, the lady on the line was very helpful and was able to put me in touch with someone that would help me decide what would be a good choice for me to study. Now I do hope and pray that the numbers flow freely, the knowledge sink in and all I can say is lets get going on this exciting studying adventure.
